Alex de Minaur is currently representing Australia at the United Cup.
The world number six lost his opening match of the year, but soon found his form, as De Minaur beat Jakub Mensik at the United Cup.
He then teamed up with Storm Hunter to take down the Czech duo of Dalibor Svrcina and Miriam Skoch, sending Australia into the quarterfinals.
Which country do you think will win the United Cup?
De Minaur is certainly doing his part for Team Australia at the United Cup, but what about the Davis Cup?
The nation’s number-one singles player was missing from the squad list for Australia’s upcoming Davis Cup tie against Ecuador.
During his latest press conference at the United Cup, De Minaur shared why he isn’t planning on joining his teammates in South America.
Alex de Minaur is skipping Davis Cup duty due to injury concerns but will ‘definitely’ play later in 2026
After struggling with injuries last year, De Minaur is wary of taking any risks in 2026.
“Over the last month, I’ve been in constant communication with Lleyton [Hewitt],” he said.

Daniil Medvedev names the two things he has been trying to improve with his coaches which are already ‘working well’
“Have decided that with the issues that my body has given me throughout last year, it was smartest to kind of just sit this one out.
“I’m definitely going to be available for the next one.
“Yeah, I’ll be cheering on the boys and super excited for that.”
He did, however, admit it was a tough decision, given how much the Davis Cup means to him.
“Yeah, it was a brutal decision, right?” said De Minaur.
“Davis Cup has been my priority for basically my whole career.
“For me, there’s no greater goal than to be able to lift the trophy one day with Lleyton, with the team, for Australia again.
“That’s been a priority of mine. We’ve gotten awfully close for a couple of years.
Team Australia’s record at the Davis Cup since 2022
- 2025 Davis Cup – Lost in 2R to Belgium
- 2024 Davis Cup – Lost in SF to Italy
- 2023 Davis Cup – Lost in F to Italy
- 2022 Davis Cup – Lost in F to Canada
“My focus is just to keep on improving as a player so I can help out the team when they need me.
“I’ve got full faith in all the Aussie players that are going to Ecuador.”
De Minaur’s Davis Cup and United Cup captain Hewitt also weighed in with his thoughts.
“Obviously, when the draw came out, it was extremely tough,” said Hewitt.
“Considering the time of the year, where it is, the conditions, the surface, so many variables, for me it’s really been working with Alex [de Minaur], to be honest, to not put him in a position like he was a year and a half ago and had to play injured for nine months.

“Big picture in mind, we’ve come up with a plan that we think is the best for him moving forward.”
Hewitt then commented on the team he is taking to Ecuador.
“Alexei [Popyrin] didn’t make himself available for this tie. I would have loved to have called on Alexei, obviously, especially with his game style on clay, the weapons he possesses,” he said.
“After that, obviously, we’ve gone for guys that give us a lot of depth in singles matches, but also we’ve got a couple of good doubles options amongst the team.
Who is your favorite ATP player right now?
“There are so many unknowns, though. Not many of our guys have played at that high of altitude or anything close to that either.
“We won’t 100% know the conditions until we get over there, but I feel like I have plenty of choices to choose from.”
So who has Hewitt chosen to represent Australia at the Davis Cup next month?
