Darts star Fallon Sherrock admitted her embarrassing encounter with Prince William left her “shaking”. The 31-year-old emerged as a pioneer in the sport back in 2019 when she became the first female player to claim a victory at the PDC World Darts Championship.
Her status as a trailblazer only intensified from there as she made it all the way to the Grand Slam of Darts quarter-finals in 2021, before capturing the inaugural Women’s World Matchplay title in 2022. Sherrock also made history when becoming the first woman to compete in the 2020 Premier League, doing so as one of the weekly ‘contenders’.

The lofty achievements the ‘Queen of the Palace’ had to her name saw her honoured with an MBE in the 2023 Birthday Honours for services to darts. However, the moment she was awarded with the accolade wasn’t as smooth as she would have liked it to be.
Detailing the moment as “nerve-racking,” she opened up about the experience with darts pundit Wayne Mardle on his Club 501 YouTube channel. Sherrock explained: “I remember getting there and just feeling so nervous about it, because I didn’t know what to say, didn’t know what to do.
“My feet were killing me from wearing heels all day. We were walking miles – I should have worn comfier shoes!” It was during the Royal encounter with the Prince of Wales that Sherrock admitted was the root of her embarrassment. “I think I was more worried about embarrassing myself,” she said.

“Because I know you have like a little chat. I just didn’t wanna say anything stupid. But I kind of did a little bit. I didn’t mean to – to William. He said obviously that he watches darts on the television, and I literally turned around – so stupid – I turned around: ‘What on the TV?’
“Like, really stupid and he kind of looked at me and was like: ‘Yes, the television.’ He just looked at me plain, like, did you just say TV? I was shaking and just like: ‘Hi.'” As is the tradition when rubbing shoulders with Royals, especially in the circumstances of picking up such an honour, Sherrock shared details about the protocols she had to follow on the day.
She revealed: “You’re there, and you sit in a room, waiting, and you can venture around the castle, have a look around, and all that. Then you go sit in another room, and they tell you what you’ve got to do before you meet. Because you’ve got to get to one place and another place, and you’re not allowed to turn your back on them and all of that, but it’s like 30 seconds.”
