Analysts Snub Djokovic’s Legacy, Declare Him ‘Irrelevant’ to Future of Grand Slams in Shocking Dismissal Due To…

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have shared the last eight Grand Slam titles between them. Despite their incredible supremacy, all dominance comes to an end one day with the chasing pack looking to feed off the scraps.

Mark Petchey and Jim Courier discussed on the Tennis Channel who the next major champion would be aside from the big two. They both picked different and possibly surprising choices. Petchey leaned towards the inform Felix Auger-Aliassime while Courier touted Jack Draper for Grand Slam glory.

Auger-Aliassime to make the next step

After a positive end to the campaign, Auger-Aliassime has caught the eye of many in the tennis world. His late season purple patch snuck him into the ATP Tour Finals for the first time since 2022, where he put up a commendable display. It is enough for Emma Raduanu’s former coach to pinpoint him as the next major winner besides from Sinner and Alcaraz.
“I’m going to go with Felix Auger-Aliassime. I love the way he’s played. I know that he’s played with a roof over his head for the last couple of months, so that may be clouding my judgment a little bit. But all four majors have roofs these days, so he may get that luxury again.”
The Canadian was not finding his best form throughout the campaign until he arrived at Flushing Meadows. He defeated the likes of Alexander Zverev and Alex de Minaur enroute to a second major semi-final where he was halted in his tracks by a rampant Sinner. He followed this up with a very successful European indoor swing. He won the title in the European Open ahead of a re-match with Sinner in the Paris Masters final, where once again he succumbed to defeat. The 25-year-old would then make it out of his group in the ATP Finals for the first time after wins against Ben Shelton and Zverev. He would, however, fail to get past Alcaraz.

Petchey had been closely following this great form, impressed with what he saw. “I like the way he’s matured over the last three or four months. I like the way he played at the U.S. Open, and he’s got big weapons. When I look at Jannik and Carlos—if you don’t come with firepower, they’re going to get you every single time. And Felix is ranked No. 5, so he’ll be seeded pretty highly going into the Australian Open.”

Draper a future major champion

“I’m putting my money down on Jack Draper,” Courier confidently stated. “You just need to get him healthy. When he’s healthy, as he showed us in Indian Wells, he can play with the big boys. He’s got big weapons with his lefty serve, and his forehand is massive.”
The Indian Wells triumph was the pinnacle of what had been a very promising season for the British number one. Reaching a career-high fourth in the world, he made it to the final of the Madrid Open before being defeated by Casper Ruud. Two disappointing Grand Slam events at Roland Garros and Wimbledon dented his season, but a bruised humerus would end it. After attempting to solider on through the US Open, the pain became intolerable, and the 23-year-old called his 2025 season off.
The four-time Grand Slam champion was liking Draper’s tone on recent podcasts and interviews, excited to see his highly anticipated return to action. “He just needs health. His arm went out on him after Wimbledon this year — he had a bone bruise, a stress fracture. So we haven’t seen enough of him. But hopefully, from what he’s said on some podcasts, he’s going to be back and ready to go, play some exhibitions in the offseason, and get back into it. We’ll see if Jack can do it. He made a semifinal at the U.S. Open in 2024,” he said.
