The Virginia Tech Hokies are building momentum on the 2026 recruiting trail after a relatively quiet start. Over the past month, the program has started to pick up steam, landing five new commitments in a short span. In just the past week, Tech added two promising offensive tackles: Buddy Wegdam and Tyrell Simpson, the latter flipping his commitment from Rutgers.
But the Hokies aren’t slowing down. In fact, they may be on the brink of adding even more high-level talent to their future offensive line. This past weekend, Virginia Tech welcomed two of their top remaining recruiting targets for visits: offensive tackle Thomas Wilder and interior offensive lineman Adrian Hamilton. Early reports indicate that both visits went smoothly, a promising sign for head coach Brent Pry and first-year offensive line coach Matt Moore.

Wilder, a highly regarded prospect out of Green Run High School in Virginia Beach, has now announced that he will make his college commitment on July 4. His list of finalists includes four prominent programs: Virginia Tech, Penn State, Maryland, and North Carolina. It’s a competitive group of schools, but Virginia Tech may have the edge thanks to multiple factors.
One of the biggest selling points for the Hokies is Wilder’s familiarity with the program. Even before Moore joined the coaching staff, Wilder had established a strong connection with Virginia Tech. That relationship only grew stronger when Moore, formerly on staff at West Virginia, arrived in Blacksburg. Moore had previously recruited Wilder while at WVU, and the continuity has given Tech an advantage heading into the final weeks of the recruiting process.

Wilder stands 6-foot-6 and weighs around 285 pounds, making him a prototypical offensive tackle prospect. A consensus four-star recruit, he is also ranked among the top 10 players in the state of Virginia by 247Sports. His presence would bring significant size, skill, and athleticism to the Hokies’ offensive line unit.
Adding to Tech’s favorable position is the strong pipeline it has established with Green Run High School. The Hokies already have four current players on their roster from the Virginia Beach school, including standout wide receiver Keylen Adams. Even more impressively, two of Tech’s recent 2026 commitments — edge rusher Kamren Johnson and cornerback Zaevion Cleveland — also play at Green Run. That familiarity and sense of community could play a crucial role in Wilder’s decision.

Meanwhile, Adrian Hamilton, another key offensive line target, is also closing in on a college decision. He has named the Hokies as one of his three finalists, alongside Virginia and Michigan State, and is expected to announce his choice on July 5 — just one day after Wilder. A native of Washington, D.C., Hamilton is a versatile interior lineman who would complement Wilder well in Tech’s 2026 recruiting class.
If the Hokies manage to land commitments from both Wilder and Hamilton, it would mark one of the program’s most impressive offensive line recruiting wins in recent years. It would also be a strong statement in Coach Moore’s first year overseeing the offensive line unit, demonstrating his ability to both build relationships and close on key targets quickly.

Virginia Tech’s recent surge in recruiting success is giving fans reason for optimism. After a slower-than-expected start to the 2026 cycle, the Hokies are starting to build a class with both talent and depth. Offensive linemen like Wegdam, Simpson, and potentially Wilder and Hamilton, reflect a commitment to bolstering the trenches — a key area of focus for any team looking to compete at a high level in the ACC.
While nothing is guaranteed until the commitments are official, the next couple of weeks could be pivotal for Virginia Tech’s future. With two major announcements set for the beginning of July, the Hokies have positioned themselves well with both Wilder and Hamilton. Should things go their way, the program could take a significant step toward assembling one of its best offensive line groups in recent memory.
The recruiting trail is full of twists and turns, but right now, Virginia Tech appears to be trending in the right direction. All eyes will be on July 4 and 5, as the Hokies await the decisions of two top-tier offensive line prospects who could shape the foundation of the team’s offensive future.
