Defensive coordinator Chris Marve, offensive line coach Ron Crook, and senior director of strength and conditioning Dwight Galt IV. These decisions come after a disappointing 2024 season that saw the Hokies finish with a 6-6 record and a loss in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl to Minnesota . In a statement, Coach Pry expressed appreciation for the departing coaches’ contributions but emphasized that the team’s on-field performance did not meet the program’s standards. He stated, “Our on-field results have not met our standards. As head coach, it is my responsibility to make the necessary changes to restore this program to its rightful place among college football’s best” .
The Hokies’ offense struggled under the guidance of Coach Bowen, ranking 77th in the nation in total yards per game and 52nd in points per game in 2024. Quarterback Kyron Drones, who had shown promise in previous seasons, faced challenges this year, including injuries that affected his performance .
In response to these challenges, Coach Pry has made several strategic hires to strengthen the coaching staff. Matt Moore, formerly of West Virginia, has been brought in as the new offensive line coach. Sam Siefkes, previously the linebackers coach for the Arizona Cardinals, has been appointed as the new defensive coordinator. Additionally, Phillip Montgomery, former head coach at Tulsa, has been named the new offensive coordinator .
These coaching changes are part of a broader effort by Coach Pry to rebuild the Hokies’ football program and return it to prominence in the ACC. The team will look to improve upon its recent performances and compete more effectively in the upcoming season.
